In northern California, tucked away among the aspen trees with an elevation of 7850 ft is a body of water named Lake Convict. A lake stocked with Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout deep under its surface. In the distance, as shown in the photograph above and surrounding the lake is Mount Morrison. A place that reaches far back into history with stories of its own. The lake holds many stories of death and has been the interest of many Hollywood films.
Seduced by the beautiful reflection on the lake and the scene of layered rocks I made this image in the year of 2013. The trails around the lake are dangerous and are home to such creatures as the deadly Rattlesnake. I witnessed the death of a large dog running the trail along with his owner. The time it took to get the dog into a boat and across the lake to a hospital ended in a tragic situation.
This place holds a fascination with me because of its history. It gets its name after a group of convicts that escaped from a prison in Carson City.
An unforgiving yet beautiful scene sits in wait.
